I do like the way his mouth buldges in the last panel when he eats, but unless there's something very clever going on here that I missed the joke's a little tame.

Oh and 'Oat Balz', great name for a cereal! Simple, yet effective.

    Don't get it

  3. Jez' response

I think the joke is that he's so into his morning routine that he doesn't realize how stupid it is – i.e. he eats cereal although he has no stomach.

  4. Tom

Is that a detachable penis by the alarm clock?

    if so, lol.

    Hell, lol anyway.

  5. Michael

That's the edge of his pillow sticking out of the pillow case.

  6. Leak

This wouldn't happen to be a case of someone getting a full prosthetic body? Because that would explain the “Morning Routine” quite nicely… :)

np: Andrew Thomas – Shiny Garden (Pop Ambient 2008)

the meaning is that dairy products aren't good for your body.
especially not if you're a robot.
have any of you seen a.i.?

  8. Darnok

I'd suggest putting a milk bottle on the table in the last panel, maybe half hidden by the cereal box or something… I think it'd help…
Maybe if she said “[Did you just finish] the milk? You don't even have a stomach!” also…
Funky comics, I like your style.

  9. Derrick

Great stuff here as always. Makes you think, but you can still laugh even if you don't fully get it.

Just takes one bitch to wreck your whole day…

I've really been disappointed with SCP lately. This used to be my favorite comic, hands down. It was smart, funny, and original, and I really feel like that's been seriously lacking lately. The art's still a nice touch, but there's really nothing intelligent about this strip, or any of the last several. They barely even make me chuckle if they get that far.

  12. Much Better Than You

I can totally relate, dispite of me having a stomach and stuff. Not funny, yet keen. People are just beeing too hard (or too stupid) at rating.

  13. Shade

Judging from the last panel, I'd assume that he is using up all the hot water in the second panel. Some people are trying to make robots very life-like, so it seems like the point of this comic is to really think about what we're trying to achieve.. do we really want robots that are just like us, so that they can use up all our resources?

  14. HiddenJoke

He just wanted to draw a robot in a shower.

  15. Arvidsson

She can't stomach him using up all the milk, especially since he has no stomach.

though this is one comic with a low score i kinda like it. Though i get why people wont find it that funny. This is more of the 'smile at the funnies' comics as opposed to the 'lol' kind.

I can only assume it wasn't meant to be funny. We can assume it's meant to be melancholic because he finds such pleasure in doing human things even though he isn't human. I think we're confused because of her line.

Perhaps if the emphasis of the comic was more clearly focused on our sadness knowing he can't do something and his naive happiness because he's emulating the action, not knowing the exact purpose to the actions. Like how he can't sleep, he can only lie down in bed for long periods of time… but he'd be happy doing it.

Oops. Please delete my previous comment and this one! Sorry!

  20. Shou

I like it, all aspects of it!
    Why?
Because we can derive shallow meanings to it (such as: “hahaha! Robot drank last of milk and no has stomach! hahaha!” “used hot water. lol!!”) or deeper meanings as well (such as those that have been pointed out: he has a morning routine and quite likely is in a full prosthetic body, he just can't seem to break the habits. Or perhaps he just wants to be like a human.)

But just the fact that there is a robot amuses me. Maybe that's why I keep reading.
I just asked my brother to evaluate the comic, and he feels that it is saying that 'women are too bossy/nag too much.'
So we can get all sorts of meanings from this, and it's quite enjoyable to decode, even if the artist/writer didn't mean anything deep by it.

I've had too much caffeine. :D

  21. Shou

Oh! I'm sorry for a one-comment-after-the-other type dealie, but I misinterpreted my brother's words. he ACTUALLY meant, (and I quote) “MAYBE women are just too controlling and it makes men FEEL LIKE robots.”
Which is a whole new meaning!

Again, I love this website, I love these comocs… I even enjoy the comments!
I shall continue to read, and maybe pick apart meanings, though it doesn't seem I've come up with my own this time around. (:

  22. Hef

I LOVE the comment just north of mine.
Also: Does the robot get slimmer in panel 3?

  23. Rhodium

Marty lay on his deathbed, desperately fighting against his demise. “Just one more day,” he thought. “Just one more waking up in the morning, just one more hot shower, just one more breakfast…” It is this clinging to life which made Marty choose in his earlier days to have his brain cryogenically frozen, and this was his sole hope. A century later, his wish was finally realized as he came to in a fully functioning prosthetic body, and he joyously carried out his last wishes.
Stupid, irrational Marty. Metal-men don't shower or eat. I presume they wake up; the brain's still organic and needs sleep. [unneeded tangent much?]
The pillow sticking out from the casing could be a little whiter. Same for the bed.

  24. ollie

The robot DOES enjoy his routine, he is happy, but that nagging bitch has to start carping about something, probably because she can't stand seeing someone (ANYONE) else happy, even if it is a robot. She probably voted for Harper.

  25. Chad

Damn I'd hate to be her. That robot wakes up at 6 with an alarm clock (talk about lazy internal maintenance), uses up hot water AND drinks her bloody milk.

  26. Dogman

I agree with some comments here in saying that SCP has been mostly hit and miss lately. Some comics are funny in a very deep way, but some are poorly executed or not very funny to begin with. The last comic was pretty close to the mark, as was the dog one. I'd suggest waiting until you have a good idea rather than rushing a comic out to keep a schedule.

  27. Jez

Have to disagree with you Dogman. Ideas aren't things that just appear out of nowhere, you have to cultivate them to put yourself in the right frame of mind to have them. While SCP may be hit and miss atm, if Kevin got out of thehabit of writing cartoons my guess is that he'd have less and less ideas.

Saw this happen to my previous favourite web comic, Pierce Logic (that turned into 'FTW'), where Pierce decieded to break from a schedule in the idea that if he waited for a good idea rather than having a schedule it'd increase the quality. It died pretty quickly after that.

  28. dran

Dude why do people not get this one!

  29. anonymous coward

This is the first time I have ever browsed the comics on this site, and I love this stuff!!!! I can't believe people are complaining. You rule man, don't listen to the critics.

This site is going on my favorites list.
