I believe it’s a play on the popular ‘lolcats’ Internet meme.
June 7th, 2008 at 1:32 am

I find a strange urge to request your feline friend to laugh out loud.

And published early Caturday morning. Perfect.

If you understand this, you should find something more productive to do with your time.
June 7th, 2008 at 6:09 am
Ah yes, I get it now.
A culmination of many memes, well done!

June 7th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Doug,
Please stop wasting time on the Internet as your alter-ego. The world needs the constant vigilance of Irony Man, not his dumbassed Internet comic comments.
June 8th, 2008 at 3:02 am
The memes have gotten SCP now, too?? NOOOOOO funny comic though

The man’s ears seem a bit low/tilted down in the last panel.
June 8th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
genius, thanks. don’t listen to the haters. it’s weird how the lolcats meme has such rabid haters, isn’t it?
WIN
June 9th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Quite clever, sir. It’s kind of like those Gieco cave man commercials except, ya know, funny.

June 10th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

June 11th, 2008 at 12:00 am
‘lol’, I say. ‘lol’.
Hate ‘em, love ‘em, who cares? This was complete win in its own way, and many others.
Now quit fighting in the comments section and enjoy the funny, eh? or at least wait for the next comic.
Besides, it’s not how much you like a ‘lolcat’, it’s how well done this comic is that makes it good!
June 11th, 2008 at 8:16 am
How are you gentlemen?
June 12th, 2008 at 1:24 am
LOL!
You have appeased Ceiling Cat and Basement Cat as well with your offering.
MOAR of these sorts of joke, plz.
=D
June 12th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Man… Internet memes garner such antagonism. Everyone swearing at each other; oh well. The internet is stupid and silly, as is the rest of the world. The comic was funny. Time for a cigar.
June 13th, 2008 at 9:05 am
The problem isn’t the meme itself, it’s the morons who cancer everything up by putting them into the mainstream thinking they’re some kind of internet superhero when in fact they’re a malignant tumor on the face of the chans. Plus, lolcats just were never funny and probably never will be.
June 13th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Wait, cans I or can’snt I haz a cheezburger?
June 14th, 2008 at 3:03 am
Sparky: That’s just your opinion. There are people out there that like that sort of stuff. I couldn’t give 2 shits about it, but have the decency to know other people care.
June 14th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
At least its an amusing satire of those crappy memes. I was disappointed untill I read the comments and understood it though. I guess that’s what I get for purposefully isolating myself from all that crap. Again, though, good satire, it’s one lolcatz variant I actually enjoyed.
June 14th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Sparky: Don’t bother taunting the unwashed masses, they won’t get it. Consider every bit of nerdrage you feel as proof that you should ALWAYS follow rules 1 and 2.
Red: Sparky hails from the website which created the cats-with-captions meme, back when it was still called fucking Caturday. Needless to say, they are NOT pleased with the steaming load of trite, derivative fail that the rest of the internet left all over the concept.
June 14th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I’ve never seen people get so worked up over lolcats. Jesus Christ, you’re such children. You act like the internet is some sacred shrine to the awesomeness of it’s collective users. Get over it. It’s cats with captions. Some people find it funny, others do not. Don’t act like your tastes in humor are superior to everyone else’s, or you’ll find yourself as alone in the real world as you are in the super-immaculate and contrived vision of how the internet should be used.
June 15th, 2008 at 6:00 am
Habeeb: …Well, didn’t know that. And now it makes less sense. He’s slagging off basically a more detailed version of the content of a site he’s so attracted to?
June 15th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Red: First, it’s extremely rare for “more detail” to mean “better.” Pick any treasured childhood cartoon or TV show. I guarantee you that there will be at least two DeviantArt users writing long, graphically detailed fanfiction where two prominent same-sex characters fall in love, get gay-married and (sometimes *illustrated*) have children together. THIS IS NOT GOOD. Likewise, taking a novel concept and running it into the ground with continual repetition of the same three jokes is not a good thing.
Moreover, this is a website which slags on everything, even itself. Think of it as the unconscious reaction to every whining little puke who thinks the internet is a place where THEY can say whatever they want, and no one should criticize them. It’s a website full of hate, to show that hate is good. When criticism is mindless and unforgiving, creativity is boundless and unrelenting. Take away the criticism, and mindless little cliques will infest a concept with their own masturbatory fantasies.
June 15th, 2008 at 11:20 am
habeeb . . ..
What?!?!
Lolcats is a site full of hate?
I haz confooyshun?
June 16th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
SERIOUS BUISNESS.
June 17th, 2008 at 7:41 am
sean: habeeb is talking about the sites that originated the lolcats meme, the “chan’s” (look it up on http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com). It is indeed a site full of hate. And it is also full of the most singularly hilarious and disturbing things imaginable. This is a site which mocked Heath Ledger on the day he died, saying it was because of AIDS (accompanied by a Brokeback Mountain picture), a site where nothing is sacred, where a kid kills himself because he lost his iPod and becomes famous across the chan’s for a grammatical error on a friend’s eulogy. And every Caturday, these things were put aside, and pictures of cute cats doing funny things were posted. Hilarity by contrast, but with the same brilliant humour underlying it.
Then came along the site http://icanhascheezburger.com/. Instantly, the meme became utterly stupid. Instead of being an ironic and clever outlet for the small sane parts of the channer that remained, it became a place for menopausal women and preteens to come together to imitate in vain the manner of speech in the lolcats meme, resulting in an endless barrage of derivative, bland and humourless pictures. I can guarantee that every single funny cat macro you’ve ever seen originated in the chan’s. Ceiling cat, longcat, serious cat… all chan-born.
I do like this comic, but the lolcats meme ceased being funny a long time ago. No original content has developed from its popularisation, only fail in epic amounts. One might even go so far as to declare it epic fail.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
these are funny and hillarious great job!
June 25th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Why aren’t there paw pads on the kitty’s hands?

No more memes.
July 26th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Took me a while to get it, but once I did, it was pretty funny. Good job!
August 7th, 2008 at 6:56 am
Well, I lol’d.
August 7th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS SHIT.

August 8th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
