I wrote this one a couple of years ago, and just recently rediscovered the rough draft when going through some old papers.

It’s like a secret message FROM THE PAST.

I got the joke the second time I read through it. Brilliant. So much was lost when I didn’t take in the importance of the word “recent”.

    I don’t get it.

He is a time traveler, gone back to the past to help us rebuild after some sort of catastrophe. Unfortunately, he went back too far, and let it slip to our poor victim here (Possibly himself?) that this catastrophe is going to happen within a few months…

It’s quite obvious if you read into it.

A paradox is an impossibility, like inventing a time machine, going back in time, and killing yourself before you can invent the timemachine to go back and kill yourself to… etc.

I like the ‘futuristic’ clothing. It’s like everyone in the (near?) future wants to be some sort of badly-drawn comic-book superhero! (Or he’s crazy. Unless the cape is some sort of technology that enhances the ability to stay in the past longer?)

Does the metal codpiece also help?

I don’t get it, if its a leap year he would only be a day or so late right? Unless he selected feb 29th during a NON leap year, and somehow showed up a year or more later.

Or maybe he is using the chinese/hebrew calendars, which could have an extra month.

Maybe it was an event like the Seven Hour War in Half-life. Something really horrible on a global scale, but that only took a day or less to happen. Then he might have gotten there one day early, which would be just hours before it started.

He wrote this a couple of years ago people! That means in 2006. So it was predicting 2 years into the future, not a day or two.

There is only one day’s difference between a leap year and a regular year. This implies that his calculation only made him one day early or one day late. No one said anything about the amount of time he traveled, jproach was talking about the difference between when he was there and when he was supposed to be there.

My first comment was entirely facetious, but I would really hope that anyone who read it noticed that. I mean, come on.

I could see it making more since if he had said “I forgot to compensate for leap years, see you in a couple days!”

    @KaBob

Yeah that’s what confuses me. Why would ‘08 being a leap year throw of his time jump by months? Wouldn’t he just be a few days ahead?

  15. Jez

Does anyone here know the intricacies of time-travel? I thouht not! Perhaps it’s very tricky and the slightest calculation error can send you way off track. Maybe leap years need different mathematics because of the extra day meaning that the co-ordinates wouldn’t have made sense ad thrown him way off track. I say don’t question the future man, as he clearly knows more about what’s going to happen, and how time-travel works, than we do.

  16. Dare

I agree with Jez. :) Don’t question it… just go with it.

  17. George

Or, we could all just enjoy the comic and stop being so thoughtful about a stupid cartoon.

  18. Ragnar

I think it would have been less confusing without the talk about leap years. Maybe something like “Oh darn, it’s January! Sorry about that, see you in May!”
Also, all we see of the ‘present’ is a guy with a shoulderbag. That tells us the disaster hasn’t happened yet?
