This is so bad this comic should not exist... wait, I gave it a 4? Well then... :P

I thought it was going to go into a "Oh the huge mantee" direction, too! Damn. I loved the art in this one, and the style. It could easily become some comedy short on a television series (as a lot of your strips in this comic strip could) like "Kids in the Hall" or "Human Giant" or something of the sort.

The whole red sky with searchlights (probably not searchlights but I don't know what else to call them) reminds me of the Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 trailers they have out with the bomb sirens and such (pretty classic theme really, the red sky and bomb sirens, I found out shortly after seeing the first trailer).

...so, umm, the triumvirate... or what it was supposed to be until your removed the line, Kevin... was it a referrence to the WWII era 'Axis' in some way (I can think of a bunch) ? That's the only way I can think of triumvirate working, or being in any sort of context. Loved the strip either way, my favouritest yet, with the green man and some other one of which I've forgotten right after it (made a comment on each for when they were my favourite, the 2 mentioned).

Keep up the good work!.

This comic reminded me of the short series called We3. In that series, engineered animals are released to the wild when their project is cancelled.

geeze, I don't understand why this one caused so much argument! I think it's really funny - just the little things [I believe someone mentioned the hilarity of the word 'luftcow', and something about the image of all those animals floating around out there...]. Also, upon finding out th elephant's little declaration there, I actually kinda thought that it was the funniest part of the strip. Something about the word 'Triumvirate' coming from the mouth of an elephant...
Don't crumble below the awesome might of what may have been a wildly unnecessarily long word. It's the best bit.

Never listen to stupid, boring people when they comment on any form of art.
Because I'm always right about everything. Yes. Yes I am.

http://xs226.xs.to/xs226/08153/commercialdisasterrmxx206.jpg
That's definitely my favorite version. Taking out the triumvirate part abandons one of the twists of the comic that makes it great. Google triumvirate if you had issues with it.

This made me so happy! The animals' expressions in the last panel are cute on their own, but the change in mood from the rest of the comic takes it to a higher level of delightfulness. I agree that the speechless version works fine, although the use of the phrase "PROJECT LUFTCOW" makes it a lot funnier. (I'm glad I saw it after the "triumvirate" remark was removed, though).

This is also a very nice use of the webcomic format -- at least on my monitor, the top row of strips is all that's visible at first, so it forces a short beat between the grim upper panels and the unexpected conclusion.

Have you noticed a change in emotional tone over the strip's run? It seems like your earlier strips were usually sad or grotesque, while there are now frequently ones that move more towards serendipity / pronoia (i.e., happier, but still weird).

i'm not reading most of the comments, but i agree that it looks better textless. the simplicity and elegance make the point much better. the only thing about it is without text you're not sure what the boss's plans are. however, it seems like it is less than animal-friendly either way and effectively gets the point across.

in any case, i think it's a very solid strip.

This strip wins.

Incidentally, have you heard my new punk band, Project Luftcow? No, not really.

@Ragnar: I think it´s part of the joke that they already had two other projects, "Luftelephant" and "Lufttortoise", but even though both were obviously a failure as well, they still pursued another absurd "Luft"-project... I think they might finally succeed with "Luftfly"...
