New Skills

March 9th, 2008

For the job that I am starting this summer, I need to learn a bit of Flash. I’ve got a 30 day trial of flash cs3, and I’m going to try to make a simple video-game type thing in that amount of time. I also want to take this opportunity to learn a bit about animation and pixel graphics.

So, as a first step, here’s a walk cycle that I whipped up in Photoshop this afternoon, in glorious animated GIF:

Walker

( Thanks to Manning Krull for his awesome tutorial )

The next step will be to get this guy into flash, and controllable via actionscript.

Looks good. Nice touch on the hair bouncing when he takes a step.

Hey, cool! My daily narcissistic Google Alert pointed me over here. I’m always really really happy when anybody gets anything out of the tutorial I made. This piece is really outstanding and you clearly know what you’re doing with this animation stuff. I look forward to seeing more…

You’re going to be making a game in flash? But I thought a game needs millions of polys, HDR lighting, bloom, more bloom, mo-cap, million dollar budgets, licensed music tracks (prefferably heavy metal), and all that other next-genny crap in order to be fun…
