It would have made more sense (to me) to say that the monster sees the family having lunch (notice the parents are watching [over] the kid), and imagines/desires having parents to watch over and take care of him (second, dreamy-looking panel). If the comic was titled 'Revenge' I would be more inclined to agree with Iron Yeti. But you can't even see who took down his parents, so you can't assume it was humans (though who else would it be?) He lost his parents in some kind of attack. So now he sees a human kid with parents, gets jealous, and attacks him. That's my interpretation of the artist's intent. This time, however, I noticed the title, Jealousy, and it's taken on an entirely different meaning. This is why SCP is so great!
